Sketchy Breakthroughs
I don't have to organize something to enjoy it.
I don't have to be the one that people expect to get what I need.
Sometimes it is just ok to show up and draw.
It was hard- but I stepped down and that feels a lot like stepping up!

Trying to get it over with
I am a rip the Band-Aid off kind of girl.
Get it over with already...
So, the slow goodbyes are really hard for me.
It seems to me, that incremental pain
Hurts exponentially.
There are life lessons here I am sure.
Underneath the feelings of disappointment
and failure.
and recovery.

Playing
We all learn from playing
and meeting
and talking
and then playing some more.
Some of our teachers are bigger, older, wiser.
Some are smaller, younger and they remind us to be silly.
Best path is to be open to all of it.

As the year ends.
We are home for the quiet of a big city largely empty.
New years in Japan is a cleaning out, thoughtful, peaceful holiday.
A time to pause and consider.
There is much considering to do.
There is also much tea drinking, and doggie snuggling, and loitering and
lazing around to do. While I think about the future.

Crystal Clear
Before you can serve people
you have to set the table.
Before you can move forward
you have to take a moment and think.
And prepare,
For what comes next.
But for a few minutes when the table is set
and the guests have not yet come- you can
imagine that the future is as perfect
as a white table cloth and shining silver and
clear clear crystal.

Making Sense of Senselessness
Sometimes no matter how much you want to understand why
you cannot make sense of senselessness
It is not like the movies
There is no time machine to go back and change the course
there is no sudden hero to save the day
no epiphany - just a choice in a dark, quiet moment
and then silence as the world keeps moving past

Sometimes it is easy in all the obligations and details and paperwork
to forget that it is about the food and making things taste great
and sharing that with others. That is what makes me passionate.
That is the reason.

the real question
I think, more important than asking
what HE did or didn't do-
Is asking ourselves what we will do?
And asking Why we are waiting to do it?

Biting Off More Than You Can Chew
Doing what you already know is comfortable. It is easy, And it makes us feel successful.
Attempting something big, something beyond our reach, something larger than life is out there. The exposure along can send me running for an afternoon nap under the quilt on the couch. But the things I have learned in life generally come from leaping in, trying, sometimes crashing and burning. But lifting the heavy stuff, not just the twigs. Not easy. Not safe. But for me it is what makes it worth while.
